Off grid solar electric system can operate independently from the utility. Some systems can be grid tied
and have battery back up to provide power if the grid goes down thus operating off grid. Off grid solar
electric systems can provide 12/24/48 volts dc power to operate low voltage items. Or equipment can
be configured to provide 120/240 volts ac. Regardless of what voltage you need, all energy collected
from the sun must be controlled and stored in batteries for use at another time or for high current
bursts of energy. Typical costs will be 30% to 50% higher than for a simple grid tie system, mainly due
to the cost of batteries and related equipment required for a safe code compliant installation. Wind
